Length by the kind of service
Traditional funeral service, 3 to 5 minutes. It sits inside a fixed order of service, usually between readings.
Celebration of life, 6 to 10 minutes. The room is looser and the video is often the centerpiece.
Visitation or wake on a loop, 8 to 12 minutes. Guests arrive throughout, so nobody watches it from the start.

Why longer stops working
It is not about attention spans. A funeral is emotionally heavy work, and a room that has been sitting with grief for an hour cannot hold a ten minute video the way the same people could on a normal afternoon. Somewhere past six or seven minutes you can feel a room begin to protect itself.

When you have more life than minutes
Ninety years does not fit into five minutes, and forcing it produces a video that flickers past too fast to feel anything. Two better options.
Cut for range. One photo from each chapter beats five from the best chapter. The goal is a whole life, not a complete archive.
Make two versions. A tight one for the service and a longer one that loops at the visitation. Same material, two lengths, and nothing has to be thrown away.
Music sets the real limit
Most tributes are built on one or two pieces of music, and a song is roughly three and a half minutes. That is why five to six minutes keeps coming up: it is where one and a half songs land. Cutting a song off mid phrase to hit a time is always felt, even by people who could not tell you why.
